About Fire Engineering University Continuing Education Courses
Fire Engineering, owned and operated by PennWell Corp., has been developing and publishing the highest-quality training and fire service-related educational materials in the world for 132 years. The Fire Engineering brand is known to the fire service worldwide as the leader in quality, integrity, and unparalleled content excellence.
Fire Engineering materials have been used by every professional fire service educational provider for decades. Now we are providing direct to you, the fire service professional, an opportunity to continue your fire service education online and in print and for the first time to capture your educational efforts formally. This secure site will allow you to present your efforts to the authority that has local jurisdiction for recognition of your work. We have assigned a recommended CE level for each course; however, your local authority may increase or decrease that allocation.
The fire service is parochial in its approach to continuing education due to the nature of our work. There are always going to be local nuances and local issues that drive the educational requirements for various regions. To that extent, CE is governed locally and will be into the foreseeable future. We do know that more than half the states currently grant continuing education credits for attendance at FDIC. We will be extending that as part of Fire Engineering University. We cannot guarantee that every jurisdiction will accept the continuing education credits offered here, so please review this opportunity with your local authorities.
Please review our education disclaimer for more detailed information about our educational policies.

Educational Information
Fire service professionals who currently subscribe to Fire Engineering magazine will receive our continuing education courses in the mail on a monthly basis as part of their Fire Engineering subscription. Each course consists of information pertaining to a fire service topic and an accompanying answer sheet. Answer sheets are completed and faxed or mailed back to our offices for grading, along with the appropriate test fees. Once a fire professional successfully completes a course by receiving a score of 70% or higher, Fire Engineering University mails out a verification of completion.
